After several teasers and announcements, the LB744 project is finally declassified. Meet the Lamborghini Revuelto! This car replaced the Aventador model, which was produced from 2011 to 2022 and sold 11465 copies. And from a historical perspective, the Revuelto continued the lineage of the flagship mid-engine models Miura, Countach, Diablo and Murcielago. Therefore, the new coupe retained the family guillotine doors, which first appeared on the Countach coupe and subsequently were on all 12-cylinder Lamborghini supercars.
The use of Y-shaped design solutions, with which Lamborghini stylists began timidly experimenting almost ten years ago, has reached its peak. Such a three-beam shape has running lights, taillights, side air intakes and other elements. The basic configuration — with tires 265/35 R20 in front and 345/30 R21 in the rear. But you can order shoes size 265/30 R21 on the front axle and 355/25 R22 on the rear (the Aventador had a maximum of 21 inches).
The coupe has a new carbon fiber monocoque, for which the term «monofuselage» has been coined. The key difference from the Aventador is the composite front subframe: it is made of short carbon fiber impregnated with resin, and turned out to be 20% lighter and twice as rigid as the previous aluminum structure. Overall, the new body is 10% lighter than the Aventador, and torsional stiffness has increased by 25% to 40000 Nm/degree.
The tail is equipped with a lifting antifender, which has three working positions. The necessary mode is selected electronically, but it is possible to raise the antifender forcibly. In general, the plumage of the car is able to generate 66% more downforce than the farewell version of the Aventador Ultimae. At the same time, the Revuelto model has retained one hundred percent recognizability of Lamborghini cars. But in terms of technology, there’s been a revolution.
The longitudinally mounted V12 engine is turned 180 degrees, so that the gearbox is now located not «in the cabin», but transversely on the rear axle. In parallel, the refusal from the transfer case and clutch allowed to make the cockpit more spacious. The gearbox is new: it is a twin-shaft eight-speed «robot» with two wet clutches. It is lighter and faster than the seven-speed pre-selective gearbox in the junior supercar Huracan. This arrangement of units in the company has been tested on the track coupe Lamborghini Essenza SCV12 model of 2020, although the gearbox there was different.
Finally, the Revuelto has another electric motor with 150 hp and 150 Nm in the same housing as the robot. It can rotate the rear wheels, but a separate clutch allows it to disconnect from the gearbox and work exclusively in the starter-generator mode to start the internal combustion engine or recharge the traction battery. The peak power of the four-motor hybrid powertrain is 1015 hp. So Revuelto can be considered not a supercar, but a hypercar. The first in the history of Lamborghini.
By the way, there is no reverse gearbox. The new Lamborghini supercar will be able to move in reverse only on electric power. Full battery charge will be enough only for 10 km of driving in electric mode (in any direction). By default, only front motors are responsible for driving in electric mode (yes, yes, front-wheel drive Lamborghini…), but if the electronics recognizes slippery pavement and all-wheel drive is required, and the battery has enough charge, the system will switch to all-wheel drive mode using the rear electric motor. Or it will simply run the V12.
Revuelto has a fully controlled chassis, standard carbon-ceramic brakes and as many as thirteen complex driving modes of electronics. For example, in the softest preset Citta («city») the power of hybrid powertrain is limited at 180 hp, and full output of 1015 hp is available only in the most extreme mode Corsa («race»). The push-rod suspension with horizontal shock absorbers is a thing of the past: the Revuelto has a classic double wishbone front and rear with the usual struts.
The dry weight of the new hybrid coupe is 1772 kg vs. 1550 kg of the Aventador Ultimae. With a fully charged battery, the Revuelto can accelerate to a hundred in 2.5 seconds versus 2.8 seconds for the last Aventador. Acceleration to 200 km/h takes «less than seven seconds» instead of 8.7 seconds. But the top speed has decreased: it is declared «more than 350 km/h» instead of 355 km/h. The company did not specify what characteristics will be with a discharged battery.
The interior of the new coupe has not two, but three displays. Instruments are displayed on a screen with a diagonal of 12.3 inches, the center console has a vertical display of 8.4 inches, and in addition, in front of the passenger (as in modern Ferrari models) there is an auxiliary touchscreen with a diagonal of 9.1 inches. From it you can control the media system, plus it duplicates speedometer readings and some telemetry data. In the interior trim for the first time for Lamborghini used recycled materials.
The Lamborghini Revuelto will be on sale in the second half of the year. But the company’s portfolio has already collected orders for two years ahead. The price has not yet been announced, it is clear only that the new hypercar will be more expensive than the Aventador SVJ model (minimum 350 thousand euros), but still will be inferior to the farewell version Ultimae (from 468 thousand euros).
